Step 1: Download

  1. Download Presets 2.0 and Firmware 1.84 (same as one linked above) and save it locally on your hard drive where you can find it easily after the download is complete.
  2. . Find the update file package and extract (un-ZIP) the package. Inside the ZIP file you will find two separate .wav files and a PDF file of these same instructions.

Step 2: Burn

step2.gif

  1. Using a CD-writing application installed on your CD-writing capable personal computer, burn the two wav files each as separate AUDIO-encoded discs. If given the options, burn with the Finalize (or Disc-at-Once) option enabled. Turn off any normalize function that the software may offer.
  2. Burn the file firmware1p84.wav to CD #1 as an AUDIO CD. Label the disc CD #1 DSP Software Update 1.84 .
  3. Burn the file presets2p0.wav to CD #2 as an AUDIO CD. Label the disc CD #2 Presets 2.0 Update.

Step 3: Connect

step3.gif

NOTE: Check the coaxial digital audio output settings of your DVD player before beginning. Turn off any 3D, normalization, spatialization, and compression features that the DVD player may have. Ensure that "bitstream" is selected in the menu setting for the digital audio output format.

  1. Access the rear of the compatible DVD player and connect the audio patch cable to the DVD player’s coaxial digital audio output connector. If the player only has an optical digital audio output, a optical to coaxial converter must be used.
  2. Connect the other end of the audio patch cable to the Data IN jack (RCA-type jack with a white center) of the PS1 power stand.

Step 4: Update the Firmware

step4.gif

NOTE: The upgrade procedure must be done in the following order with the DSP firmware update followed by the preset upgrade. The PS1 power stand may not accept the preset upgrade if the DSP firmware upgrade was not performed successfully first.

  1. Turn the Power switch on the PS1 power stand to Off .
  2. Insert the CD #1 DSP Software Update 1.84 disc into the DVD player. Press the STOP button twice.

  4. Press PLAY on the DVD player.
  5. Watch and wait. After about 8 seconds the Power LED on the PS1 will blink rapidly green (about 10 times per second). The PS1 is receiving upgrade information. This normally lasts for about 10 seconds.
  6. Soon after, the Power LED should blink green at a slower rate (about twice per second). This would indicate that this first part of the upgrade was successful. If you are getting other results please visit the troubleshooting section.
