This article describes how you can connect a T4S ToneMatch mixer to an L1 Model II and an L1 Model I.

L1 Model I

Connect one T4S ToneMatch mixer 1/4 inch (6 mm) main output to the L1 Model I/Classic channel 1. Use a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Sleeve.

With the T4S ToneMatch mixer master output around 11:00 o'clock and running some inputs at the maximum you will use in performance, set the L1 Model I/Classic input trim level so you get solid green lights with occasional flashes of red.

You don't need to use the R1 Remote when you're using the T4S ToneMatch mixer.

Set the ToneMatch Preset to 00.

Questions

Why not use the XLR output on the T4S ToneMatch mixer and XLR input on the L1 Model I
The XLR outputs from the T4S are too hot for the XLR inputs on the L1 Model I
Should I use 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeves for a balanced connection?
No need. The 1/4 inch (6 mm) inputs on the L1 Classic are unbalanced. You can use balanced cables but there's no advantage

L1 Model II

Connect the one T4S ToneMatch mixer 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve main output to the L1 Model II Analog Input. Use a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve.

With the T4S master output around 11:00 o'clock and running some inputs at the maximum you will use in performance, set the L1 Model II input trim level so you get solid green lights with occasional flashes of red. This may be different than the setting on the L1 Model I.

Questions

Why not use the XLR output on the T4S ToneMatch mixer
This is a matter of convenience. When you use 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeves, both ends work in both devices.
Should I use 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeves for a balanced connection?
Yes. The 1/4 inch (6 mm) output from the T4S is balanced. The analog input on the L1 Model II is balanced. Use a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve to maintain a balanced connection.
How do I balance the relative volume between the two L1 systems?
Do this by ear. If you start off with both responding with solid green lights (red flickers are okay), then turn down the one that is too loud.
