Summary

These are projections and estimates based on previously published data from Bose.
Assumptions:

  • All values are calculated at 2 kHz
  • S1 Pro, L1 Compact, L1 Pro8, F1 Model 812 have a critical distance[1] of 0 meters/feet[2]
  • L1 Model 1S and L1 Pro16 have a critical distance[1] of approximately 3 meters (10 feet)[2]
  • L1 Model II and L1 Pro32 have a critical distance[1] of approximately 10 meters (33 feet)[2]

L1 Pro Throw Over Distance

This is the chart used to estimate critical distance and drop-off over distance. The source is 13:25 Which L1 Pro Portable System is Right for You?

L1 Pro Throw over Distance.jpg

L1 Pro Compared to L1 Legacy

Assuming that all systems are run at their rated maximum outputs:

  • L1 Pro8 will be +6 dB SPL higher than the L1 Compact at any distance
  • L1 Model 1S will be +3 dB SPL higher than the L1 Pro8 at any distance
  • L1 Pro16 will be +6 dB SPL higher than the L1 Model 1S (beyond 2 meters)
  • L1 Model II will be +3 dB SPL higher than the L1 Pro16 (beyond 4 meters)
  • L1 Pro32 will be +7 dB SPL higher than the L1 Model II at any distance

The table below is adapted from the chart from Bose[2] and previously published data.

All Models

Assuming that all systems are run at their rated maximum outputs:

  • L1 Compact will be +6 dB SPL higher than the S1 Pro at any distance
  • L1 Pro8 will be +6 dB SPL higher than the L1 Compact at any distance
  • L1 Model 1S will be +3 dB SPL higher than the L1 Pro8 at any distance
  • L1 Pro16 will be +6 dB SPL higher than the L1 Model 1S (beyond 2 meters)
  • L1 Model II will be +3 dB SPL higher than the L1 Pro16 (beyond 4 meters)
  • L1 Pro32 will be +7 dB SPL higher than the L1 Model II at any distance
  • F1 812 is +4 dB SPL higher than the L1 Pro32 but the drop-off over distance is greater. The result: Beyond 6 meters (20 feet) the L1 Pro32 has higher SPL.
