Introduction

When you have to set up an L1 for an organization that doesn't have a person dedicated to running the sound system.

This article assumes that the reader is familiar with the L1 and ToneMatch mixer, but has to rely on others to operate it.

If the sound system will be used in the same way every time, here are some steps you can take to ensure success when you are not available.

With a ToneMatch Mixer (T1, T4S/T8S)

ToneMatch mixers can store Scene (a snapshot of all the settings). You can create a Scene, and others can load them to put the ToneMatch mixer back in a known, working state. Note: Scenes cannot store the physical controls (Trim, Channel Volume, Master Volume, Headphone Volume).

Connect the microphone(s) and instruments to the ToneMatch mixer Use a ToneMatch Cable (or ethernet cable) to connect the ToneMatch mixer to the L1

  1. Set up all the connections and settings
  2. Save all the settings as a Scene (load the same Scene into two locations)
    • The reason for loading the Scene in two locations - in case someone overwrites one of them
    • Back up the Scene to a computer
  3. Label all cables and inputs (you can use colors or numbers)
  4. Use tape or label strips to mark where the trim settings and volume knobs should be
  5. Provide written instructions with pictures of how things should look
  6. In the instructions - show how to Load a Scene
  7. Train two people
